ABOUT THIS IMAGE

HMAV Bounty was a British naval ship that departed England in 1787 bound for Tahiti on a mission to gather breadfruit plants and transport them to the West Indies. 46 sailors left under the leadership of Lieutenant William Bligh and the saga that unfolded has become one of the great ocean tales of all time.

This image was taken on board the Bounty replica that was built for the 1984 Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins movie, The Bounty, which resided in Sydney Harbour in the early 2000s.
