Bridge to Nowhere

ABOUT THIS IMAGE

At Belhaven Beach on the East Lothian coast you’ll find ‘The Bridge to Nowhere’ – a seemingly sculptural overpass to nowhere arising from the ocean foreshore at high tide. In truth the bridge crosses a river outlet into the ocean at low tide, and is inundated as the tide rises, leaving the arched structure alone and with no purpose except to wait. As the sun sets and with the ebbing tide sweeping back and forth it begins to look stranded and a little mysterious, yet always resolute and patient.
