Birks of Aberfeldy, Scotland. Scots poet Robert Burns penned the song lyrics, ‘The Birks of Aberfeldy’ in 1787 and so named the gorgeous Falls of Moness forest walk. ‘Birks’ in the Scots language means ‘birch’ – as in trees – and here they remain in abundance. Today, over 200 years since the National Bard noted the ‘chrystal streamlets, ‘misty showers’ and ‘flowery braes’ the walk remains both tranquil and spectacular. In the autumn when the leaves turn yellow and orange and contrast with the mossy green rocks, there are very few places I’d rather stand with a camera.
